Francisco Lobo lives and works
in London. He first studied Architecture in Oporto and Lisbon, and
practiced as an architect between 1999 and 2005. In 2004 he attended the
printmaking course at Ar.co in Lisbon. In 2007 he completed his studies
in Fine Art at the Royal College of Art, with an MA in printmaking.
Since 2005 his work has been shown in various galleries in the UK and Portugal, including New Contemporaries 2007 (London, Manchester and Walsall). Other recent exhibitions include ‘Pure: Printmaking’, Ferreira Projects, London (2008), ‘Underground’, Subway Gallery, London (2007), ‘Kunst Wurst’, Cafe Gallery Projects, London (2007), ‘Wood Cut’, RCA, London (2006), ‘Ar.Co Bazar’, Centro Cultural de Belém, Lisbon (2006), and he won the London Original Print Fair Award for Printmaking at the RA Summer Exhibition (2007).
Alongside his interest in construction as a conceptual tool, Francisco merges the disciplines of fine art and graphics, utilizing techniques of printmaking and drawing with the language of the poster. He is particularly interested in exploring ways in which the viewer’s expectations of the artwork together with the social figure of the artist can be incorporated into the artwork itself.
