Based in London, UK, Jason Oliver graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2007 with a Masters degree in Printmaking. Here he became fascinated in the relationship between traditional and contemporary print methodology, which resonates with his subject matter, being tradition versus modernity. Recent shows include the RA Summer Show [2007], ‘Underground’ at Edgware Road Tube Station [2007] and ‘The Mini-Picture Show’ at Bankside Gallery [2008]
He is now working as an intern and teaches at the Royal Academy of Art, where his practice is based. He is interested by the relationship between occidental and oriental working techniques, and hopes to begin a residency in Japan at the end of 2008, an opportunity to study traditional Japanese woodblock printing, as well as to continue his research and experimentation with the latest cutting edge 3d software and RapidPrototype [3d] printers.
The images below are an investigation into the importance and relevance of myth in an ever-changing world. They examine the function of ritual and ceremony in what has been described as ‘expressionism meeting surrealism in a worryingly dark alleyway’.
